For farmers who have started their application, Defra said today that the Rural Payments Agency would “support them to ensure they have sufficient time to complete these”.

The application window for 2024 CS Mid Tier agreements was extended last month, by four weeks to 15 September.

Last month, Defra said there had been ‘some technical issues’ experienced by a small number of farmers when submitting their applications.

Since the deadline was extended, over 600 further applications have been received, bringing the total number of CS 2024 applications to 6,000, according to Defra.

The government said it would streamline planning rules, meaning local areas would have a greater say in how onshore wind projects should be considered.

Measures include broadening the ways that suitable locations can be identified, including by communities, and speeding up the process of allocating sites by giving alternatives to the local plan process.

The government said this would “ensure the whole community has a say, not just a small number of objectors”.

Defra has confirmed today (18 August) that the scheme will be extended to allow farmers more time to submit their applications online.

Tens of thousands of farming customers could be barred from placing orders of AN as of 1 October 2023 unless they can first submit photo ID to the retailer.

The Home Office has amended the Control of Poisons and Explosives Precursors Regulations 2023 to introduce new substances to the lists of regulated explosives precursors and poisons, including AN with a nitrogen content of 16% or more.

This applies to compounds, blends and mixtures such as NPK fertiliser containing ammonium nitrate above the nitrogen content threshold.
